PROMOTING BUSINESS GROWTH IN BARRE
Barre Area Development, Inc. (BADC) is a non-profit development organization that promotes economic development in Barre Town and Barre City. It is governed by a 15-member board made up of business leaders in the two communities. The BADC coordinates many activities that help maintain and improve civic pride and the economic, social and cultural quality of life in Barre Town and Barre City. These activities support opportunities for economic development and employment, strengthening the tax base and increasing private and municipal investment.
BADC was organized in 1961 under Vermont Statutes as a 501 (c) 6 non-profit corporation. The organization focuses primarily on industrial, commercial and retail development by providing information and support to potential new and existing businesses. BADC is funded annually by City and Town equally and works on behalf of each municipality to assist their municipal officials in developing public infrastructure that supports community and economic development.
BADC is responsible for the development of the Wilson Industrial Park, the current Highland Sugarworks building in the Wilson Industrial Park, and the Malden Mills building in Barre Town. BADC also participated in the development of City Place in downtown Barre and helped established the Barre Revolving Loan Fund. WIth the support of the City and Town, BADC recently established the brand and this web site for Barre Rock Solid to extensively market the Barre area as a special place to visit, live and work.
BADC collaborates with the Barre Partnership, the City’s Downtown Main Street Program, and many other organizations in Barre. BADC has always depended solely on the efforts of its volunteer board members to be a successful economic development force for the Barre area. Since 2008, however, the BADC has bolstered its provision of services through the hiring of a full-time Executive Director to help bring additional focus to business assistance, recruitment and retention.
